Robert Sidoli (Married Serikawa) was born in 1956 in Cardiff, Wales. In 1967 his family emigrated to B.C. Canada. He commenced his karate training in 1968 as a member of the Vancouver JKA (Sensei Hiroo Yamashiro) via its satellite dojo in Mission City. In 1970 Shihan Hidetada Narumi visited Vancouver and the dojo. The seniors convinced Shihan Narumi to stay, and for the next 10 years he bacame an institutionin the BC Karate scene. The Narumi Dojo was the representative of Zen Nihon Karate-Do Shiseikai Rengo, and became renowned in BC for producing great karate-ka, and competitive champions, namely Ritsu Goto, Bino Felix, Brian Williams, Kevin Kelly, and most famously James Johnson who became four times Canadian Kumite Champion. It was in this dojo that Sidoli's true passion for karate began. The lessons learned would stay with him, although for personal reasons he left the dojo. The next few years saw Robert align himself to Hanshi Richard Kim of the Zen Bei Butoku-Kai, and as a result of that union the introductions were made to Hidetaka Nishiyama of the JKA, and Robert returned to that fold, at the beginning of what was to become JKA Internaional Canada. Robert acted as a Technical Director for the association. Relationships that would last many years were formed with great masters such as Toru Yamaguchi. In 1987, due to family reasons, Sidoli returned to the UK. Due to the influence of Toru Yamaguchi Robert aligned himself to the Japan Karate Association (Mastsuno/Asai faction) and spent 4 happy years training with the likes of Tetsuhiko Asai, Toru Yamaguchi, Keigo Abe, Masao Kagawa and particularly MIkio Yahara whom he followed since 1996. In 1999 The JKA (Asai) fragmented with the leaders all creating their own associations. Sidoli followed the teachings of MIkio Yahara unti the end of 2009 when he resigned from that organsiation, largely due to health issues and the inability to participate/practice. The UK dojo was named 'Shiseikai'in honour of Hidetada Narumi whose teachngs Robert continued to incorporate within his karate. In 2002/2003 contact was re-made with Shihan Narumi, albeit his membership continued with Mikio Yahara. In 2006 a serious and life changing shoulder/arm injury requiring two surgeries curtailed Robert's karate career. This was followed by a heart attack and again two sets of surgery. Although somewhat disabled, Robert's passion for karate continued. He continued seeking advice from Narumi via telephone conversations. In 2010 Robert took a small team of Shiseikai Dojo members to Japan where they trained with clubs from the Nihon Shotokan Karate Renmei(Federation) - Pemba Tamang and Gima-Ha Shotokan-Ryu Karate-Do Kyokai (Association). SIdoli and Narumi were re-united and the Shiseikai Shotokan-Ryu Karate Dojo re-entered the Gima-ha Shotokan Karate-Do Association.
