Shiseikai Shotokan-Ryu Karate follow the examination grading syllabus and regulations of Gima-ha Shotokan Ryu Karate-Do Association. Gradings until Shodan maybe held nationally (i.e. in the UK), Gradings for Nidan and above are either conducted when senior Japanese Vistors come to the Europe or the UK or when students attend official events in Japan. Our grades start at 9th Kyu through 1st Kyu as in most Shoto style organisations, however our coloured belt system is slightly dfferent from mainline Shoto groups in the UK. We use white belt for 9th and 8th Kyu, Yellow belt for 7th and 6th Kyu, green belt for 5th and 4th Kyu, and brown belt for 3rd thorugh1st Kyu. Dan grades where blackbelts without stripes. Occasionally for ceremonil purposes our Saiko Shihan (Ikuo Higuchi) may wear a red belt. Please view the grading syllabus in .pdf form. The picture to the left shows Shihan Sidoli with Tim Short, the first two members of the Abbotsford Shiseikai to gain black belt rankings.
