Ichikawa Firefighters
Carl Gigg was born in 1963. He started training in the Shiseikai Shotokan-Ryu Karate in 1996, with Shihan Sidoli as his instructor. Carl was one of the first adults in the dojo to train from white belt to black belt, and currently holds the grade of 3rd degree black belt, graded by Shihan Mikio Yahara of Karatenomichi World Federation. Carl is the second senior student in the dojo and considered as one of the senior instructors. He has enjoyed a successful tournament career in the veterans division, winning second in Kumite and 3rd in Kata in the 2002 JKA Netherlands Championships, 1st in Kata and 3rd in Kumite in the 2004 JKA Netherlands Championships, 3rd in Kumite in the 2004 WJKA Championships. At world level he won 4th place in Kata, in the 2002 JSKA World Championships and 2nd in Kata and 3rd in Kumite in JSKA Germany friendship cup. Carl's classes are known to be 'basic' but 'arduous', as he has an eye for detail and is a 'stickler' for correct form. He is currently training towards his 4th degree black belt.
