Steve Edwards was born in 1982. He began training in karate under Thames Karate (Shotokan) in 1994, transferring to the Shiseikai Shotokan-Ryu in 1996. He has remained a student of Shihan Sidoli ever since. He currently holds a 4th degree black belt awarded by Shihan Mikio Yahara of Karatenomichi World Federation in 2005 and is also a C Level Instructor Examiner with Karatenomichi, and as such is the senior graded student in the dojo. As the assistant to Shihan Sidoli, Steven carries the title of 'Shihan Dai' or 'assistant to the master'and as such is largely responsible for the technical standards in the dojo. Steven has represented the dojo and Britain at various regional, national and international karate tournaments, enjoying a high degree of success. He has won 1st place in Kata at the 2003 European Friendship Cup, and twice placed 6th in successive Karatenomichi World Championships. He placed 4th in 15-16 year old division of the 1st Karatenomichi World Cup in Cardiff, losing in the semi-final to the eventual winner. Steven won 2nd in the JSKA World Championhips 2009 Team Kata division after filling in on the 'Dutch Team' where they had lost a man to injury - this entailed only 30 minutes practise together. He also placed 1st Kata and 1st Kumite in the JSKA UK British Championships in 2010. He has visited and trained in Japan on five occasions, the last being July 2010 when he attended the Gima-Ha training camp and subsequent 'Yamamoto Isoroko" enbu in Nigata. Steven was chosen to demonstrate 'kata' to the audience, where he performed Gojushiho-Sho. He received a rousing ovation and accolades from the karate-ka present. Steven has a talent for retaining kata and imparting his knowledge in a structured and methodical way. He has travelled widely throughout the UK assisting Shihan Sidoli, and has recently taught in Norway. Steven is the Head Instructor of Shiseikai Shotokan-Ryu.
